CMSW Earns Highest Rank in MN Mathematics League Competition

8th grade – 1st place;  7th grade – 1st place;  6th grade – 2nd place Our students who were Top Regional Performers were: 8th grade:  1st place – Ryan Drahozal; 2nd place – Tim Hagen, 5th place (tie) – Anna Holk, Colin Kongratsasy, Carson Pollman 7th grade:  1st place (tie) Jin Hammond, Hanna Taha; 3rd place – Lily Awes 6th grade: 3rd place – Samuel Tsu “This year’s results are the best I can remember in 30 years of competing!” said Steve Apt, CMSW Math Teacher. The Minnesota Math League has Math Contests for Grades 4 through 8, Algebra 1 students, and High School Students. Over one million students from the United States and Canada participate in Math League Contests each year. Every contest has questions from different areas of mathematics. The goal is to encourage student interest and confidence in mathematics through solving worthwhile problems. Bill Gilness named as finalist for Teacher of the Year

CMSW Spanish teacher, Bill Gilness, was one of five finalists nominated for the prestigious Teacher of the Year award this year. This high honor recognizes him for advancing innovation and excellence in education by the District 112 Foundation. This year’s winner was Nina Kirkman, a 7th grade science teacher at PRMS. As a finalist, Bill will receive $500 for use in his classroom. Previous years’ nominees from CMSW include Jessica Kamann, Annie Lund, Jim Vangerud, George Peoples and Nicole Pelowski. CMW Band Director earns “high notes” and recognition

The district recently received two awards for its outstanding music education staff and programs: Eric Songer, Chaska Middle School West Band Director, was named 2019 Music Education Innovator by the Give A Note Foundation. Grant funds support The Next Generation of Music Education, a public school program that opens up the world of chamber ensembles, pop, hip hop, improv and songwriting. E. Carver Co. PRMS science teacher, Nina Kirkman, named Teacher of the Year

Nina Kirkman was named the 2019 Teacher of the Year at the District 112 Foundation Excellence in Education Awards Banquet on April 28. Kirkman is a 7th grade science teacher at Pioneer Ridge Middle School. Although she’s a science teacher, she incorporates music, poetry, and other forms of learning to help bring the subject alive for her students. Kirkman also helps build a stronger school community through implementation and facilitation of the Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) program. This middle school transition program where 8th graders serve as mentors and work with 6th graders to help them feel comfortable in their new school environment. Her colleagues have identified her as a district-wide leader, helping other teachers while keeping a “kid lens” on curriculum writing and development. Her passion for science is infectious, and her students praise her ability to connect with them both in and out of the classroom, helping them achieve more than they think is possible. Read more... Donations welcome to district Angel Fund

E. Carver Co. Schools’ Nutrition Services department maintains an Angel Fund that is by funded by donations. The Angel Fund is used to assist families in our district that need assistance paying for meals for their children. School administrators help identify how to best allocate the funds that will make a positive difference in the lives of our students and their families. Donations come from individuals, businesses and charitable foundations. Many families donate the balance left in a student’s account when they graduate or leave the district. Every bit helps!
